Torné Velk Photography

Latest interview with Torné Velk - 18 year old photographer. She's shot me twice in the past, and not only is incredibly talented but passionate, fun and super crazy! Below are some shots she got of me a while ago - the first was my previous blog cover, and a few others made my portfolio and Z-Cards :)

The last time I interviewed you was the 9 june 2011.. You have come a LONG way since then! What have you done in this past year?

- In the past year I have realised many things and seen many changes. Tried new talented people and made some amazing friends.

(Leandri Truter)

What have been some of the challenges you've faced?

- I have had problems with my age and people trying to take advantage of me because of that. I've learned through my mistakes to keep more low key about updates, etc

(Ashleigh Gordon)

The last time I asked you about your goals for the future, you said: "to start a really successful photography business on my own"  Do you think you've achieved that or are you still in the process of fulfilling this dream?

- This goal of mine can only continue to improve all the time in every way. It will always be an ongoing process but am happy with what I've achieved so far and learning new things all the time!

(Alex McGregor)

At the moment, who/what inspires you the most?

- My inspiration constantly changes depending on what I'm looking for at that time, ranging from photographers more focused on beauty to more edgy photographers around the world.

(Michelle Van Heerden)
(Nicole Lee Lamberts)

I know you've worked with quite a few companies (magazines, agencies)..Who have you worked with and what have you learned in doing so?

- I've worked with many online magazines like Thirst for Vision, SWO magazine, Lithuania and shoots planned for new upcoming magazines, Plus 27 and more for SWO magazine. I had an interview in Between 10and5 and another one coming soon.

(Eloise Schamrel)

Do u have a particular muse, if so who and why? And if not, why? (Perhaps many etc)

- Its hard to have a muse and to have a line between work you need and work they want. I've shot Alex McGregor the most because she's easy to work with and suits any look or style.

(Alex McGregor)

(Simone De Kock and Alex McGregor)

Is there any advice you can give? Not only in photography, but in achieving your dreams and goals, about life and the real world.

- People will always try to bring you down and say anything that could possibly upset you. You need to do things for yourself and always see where you can improve. Planning a lot before a shoot always helps and always be organised and prepared. It's funny because I used to stereotype models as being rude, but every model I've shot in the last 2 years has been amazing whether their new to the modelling world or more experienced.

Madiba Day!

Hello sunshiiiiine! Just been having lunch now and soaking in this gorgeous weather..!  Two minute noodles - one of many food idiosyncrasies and obsessions. hehe.

Anyways, today is Nelson Mandela's 94th birthday.
I'm sure you all know Madiba, what he's done for the country and what an incredibly amazing man he is. I am very fortunate to say that I have met him! It was in 2000 I think, or perhaps the year before, when I was about 6, he came to my preprimary school to visit. I was quite a little drama queen back then and marched right up to him to shake his hand. He ruffled my hair (got the footage haha) and I was so proud I refused to wash my hair for the next week! Not only is he extremely inspiring, and has done so much for those around him - he is very humble, and that is something to respect.

This is one of my favourite quotes, which happens to be by Mr Mandela.
"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." So, happy birthday to a man full of courage, strength, the will to act out for the people around him and the respect of the world.

Champagne Diet

Never been on a champagne diet.... but sounds like fun ;) haha. Here's a few pics from the shoot I did with Marnus Meyer a while ago of the one look we did - my fave one! You may recognise this first pic from my new blog cover :) In these shots I wore a black body that went below the bra, as well as a black bra, black blazer with studded colour with a pair of super high heels. The make up has been transformed to the black and white choice of edits but was quite striking with a bright blue eye shadow and then to throw it all together, some wet-look hair product to slick my hair back to give the feel of wet hair - genius! Feel free to check it out on my LOOKBOOK page (lookbook.nu/themowgli)

Hope everyone's enjoying their week so far and keeping warm in this dreary weather! (comfort food - ahhh! hehe jokes :) it's the only way to survive it!) x x x

Land of the Thai

So... last week I got back from... THAILAND! Was an incredible holiday with my mom and sister, we went to Phuket for 9 days and then Bangkok for 3. In Phuket, we indulged in spa treatments, naps in the sun, trips the beach, amazing meals (my fave - Prawn Padthai.. noodles with tofu, beansprouts, prawns, etc) and crazy beautiful experiences! Bangkok was different because of it's big city elements, however still very cultured, but probably one of the most stunning cities in the world for me! Bangkok was a really insane shopping experience.. between the international stores (topshop, zara, bershka, etc), the knock-offs and nameless but gorgeous items - it was a shoppers paradise! As well as the nightlife! Anyways, here's a few pics :)
